Macromolecular Metallurgy of Block Copolymer
陳信龍 教授
摘要 :
Crystallization is a ubiquitous self-assembly process in materials, extending from atomic scale to mesoscopic colloidal particles. Despite the vast differences in size, spherical colloidal particles and metal atoms exhibit remarkably similar crystallization characteristic, highlighting the scale-invariance principle of matter.
The spherical micelles formed by block copolymer (BCP) are deformable soft colloids. The capability of BCP micelles to adjust their shape and size based on local geometric constraints makes them suitable materials for accessing complex lattice structures. In this lecture, I intend to discuss our research on the intricate packing behavior of BCP micelles, with a particular emphasis on our endeavors to develop the facile approach for accessing Frank-Kasper (FK) phase, a classs of complex structure characterized by the tetrahedrally close packing of particles with different sizes. Our approach involves several methods, including blending BCPs with homopolymers, selectively incorporating metal salts, and employing thermal processing techniques. Furthermore, I will delve into the facile access of FK phases in glycolipid-inspired block oligomers, highlighting the pivotal role of high-χ and low-N characteristics in enhancing the stability of the complex packing structures.
